##Erb's Paralysis
Also known as Erb - Duchenne Palsy
- Upper limb injury
- It is an arm injury
- It occur, cause of brachial plexus injury
- Mainly of C5 and C6 nerves
Exactly we cannot say the arm will get paralysed
Palsy means " weakness in the arm" as is affect "brachial plexus".
- Mostly often during childbirth , as when the doctor doing delivery this condition occurs, when the baby is not correctly pulled or stretched out. At that time when a delivery of a baby is going on, it is difficult to predict or difficult to say how child's body is going to react to actual birth.
- There are different stages of erb's paralysis
>Neuropraxia, >Neuroma, >Rupture, >Aculsions
Neuropraxia - Not tear the nerve but its most common stretch injury, this injury can heal within in their time limit of 3 months.
-This stage occurs in both alduts and infants.
The rupture and aculsion is the very serious stage.
As in Rupture - Nerve roots torn and can not heal it own , and in Aculsion - Nerve root start to get torn from spinal cord.
SYMPTOMS
Although , when a person get injured or suffered from this condition they have to suffer in may ways, but mostly seen symptoms are :
- Partial or total paralysis
- Loss of feeling in arm
- No full ROM
- Decrease grip strength
- Weakness
TREATMENT
Treatment is given by the therapist or doctor is when they totally go through with the patient's condition and the stage by which he/she is suffering from.
Then the treatment can be surgical and non-surgical .
In non-surgical
- There is a very important role of parents, as they have to do active movements at home told by the therapist.
- Therapist told the shoulder exercises -
•Lateral rotation
•Elevation
•Abduction
•Hand to mouth
•Hand to head
•Poterior capsule stretch
•Gentle massage
•More strength exercises
