PLANTAR FASCIITIS
Plantar fasciitis also known as Policeman's heel. One of the most common cause of pain in heel It is an inflammation of tissue or a ligament that connects heel to the foot. It is the inflammation occur ,when the tissue or fascia is overused or stretched.
The inflammation usually occur on one foot . As the condition is mainly unilateral. Its rarely seen in both side. Pain usually increases when a person put pressure .Some problems or conditions can cause plantar fasciitis like Flat foot.
SYMPTOMS:
Pain in heel
Swelling
Pain in walking , jumping , running
Hyperextension of foot
MANAGEMENT:
This condition can be easily rule out by a physiotherapist. There is surgical and conservative management both.
CONSERVATIVE MANAGEMENT
- Rest
- Icing - If condition is acute do icing. If condition is chronic do hot water fermentation
- Massaging
- Stretching exercises - Do stretching of calf and foot muscles
- Strain counter Strain technique
- Self mobilization
- Ultrasound/LASER
- Exercises - Do toe curls , toe extension , isometric exercises
- Advanced techniques - Instrument Assisted soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) , Taping , Dry needling
ADVICE
Take small steps
Don't walk barefoot
Don't stand for long time
